Mally Face Defender
When Ulta started carrying Mally Beauty, I spent some time swatching and playing with the products. I was pretty impressed. Then I read up on the brand and products and watched some videos (she's a hoot!) and decided to obtain some pieces that I knew I would use. These are the ones I decided on and am so glad I got them!
Primers have become a must have in my makeup routine and her Prep Poreless Primer was smooth, cooling and very nice to use. I can't say that it made my makeup last any longer but it definitely made the "canvas" easier to work with. Because as we age the luminosity tends to fade, I wanted to use the Illuminating primer and was pleasantly surprised that it gave me a subtle glow to my face under my base. Not too glittery or shimmery and all in all a beautiful primer to add that youthful glow.
The cancellation concealer, along with a setting powder, was a welcome addition. I have some serious genetic under eye circles and this is smooth and easy to use. On a side note my under eye circles have gotten better using Strivectin nightly! Anyway, it is also nice to have a finely milled setting powder so that the concealer does not budge!
Last but certainly not least, the Face Defender is awesome. I can use it right after makeup application to "set" my t-zone and also can use it during the day when I need a "blurring" or "erasing" of my t-zone and pores. I don't like the large compact and the sponge (which works really well) is large and bulky to carry. I know there is a travel size one in a try it kit at Ulta but am not sure I want to get that. The purple tinged silicone product is perfect for that freshening effect and pep of your makeup, especially mid-day.
I am impressed with Mally Beauty and feel these were worthy additions to my daily makeup. I do know that QVC carries a lot of great deals and kits, Ulta has a try me kit and if you are interested do try these out first to see if you like the products. Give it a whirl girls, I think you will like them and if you have tried these and have different experiences do tell! Sherry
Cover FX
My foundation and base quest continues. I have read about Cover FX on many blogs, reviews and Sephora website. I had a sample of their primer and loved it! So I decided that their base would be something I would like to try. I swatched it in Sephora and loved how it felt on my hand. I also found out that it works really well for normal to dry skin, although I have heard that oily skinned ladies love it even more.
The first time I wore it, I felt it was drying on my skin even as it smoothed on well and blended out superbly. The second time I wore it I was ambivalent. I have grown to love it and it is easy and quick to apply in the morning on my way to work. The older I get the more I want sheer and natural skin looking bases and not mask like looks. So far this has proven to be a medium to full coverage and I can sheer it out quite well. It has some impressive lasting power and that says a lot for someone who works 12 hour shifts!
Overall ladies, I am impressed with Cover FX. I am not sure I will repurchase but am glad that I tried it and was able to put it to the test. Ladies have you tried Cover FX? What are your thoughts? Do you have tips on how to wear it? Do tell! Sherry
Caudalie Favorites Try me Kit
It is a wonderful thing when you find the wonderful kits that give you a taste of a brand product. I have purchased Caudalie products before and loved them, but I don't love the prices! This kit has some awesome items and actually last quite some time. My favorite is the beauty mist, it smells awesome, gives my face a glow and actually makes me feel decadent when I use it! This kit includes: Lip Conditioner, Hand and Nail Crème, Divine Oil, Beauty Elixir, Cleansing Water.
I have purchased this before and this is my second one. The lip conditioner is smooth and is a staple in my handbag. The Divine Oil is perfect after shaving my legs and only takes a little to cover both legs. I don't usually use cleansing water but this one smells wonderful and is the last step in my cleansing. The hand and nail crème stays in my backpack for work, as a nurse I wash my hands often and this is perfect for dry hands. I have already talked about the beauty elixir and loooovvvveee this product! It refreshes, tightens and energizers me mid-day.
It is available at Sephora and in my opinion is a great buy. Have you tried Caudalie? What are your favorite kits from Sephora? Do tell! Sherry
Night View Glasses-Migraine Essentials
Oh the as seen on tv offerings! Yes I succumbed, primarily because I suffer from severe migraines and bright flashing lights are a bane to my existence and a number one trigger. I decided while browsing the aisles of CVS waiting on my prescriptions, that it would be worth it to try these. At $9.99 it was going to be hit or miss and if they worked then the 10 bucks was worth it! So off to the register I went, I had them for a week before I remembered I bought them and put them in a glasses case and put them in the car and promptly forgot again.
One night on the way home from work I was squinting and put on my sunglasses to cut the glare. It then occurred to me that I had the night vision glasses. I put them on and wow what a difference they made! Yes I felt like I looked like a goober wearing them, but decided then and there that goober was better than migraine hell. Ladies, these work. I was able to drive home without squinting or avoiding bright billboards, emergency vehicle lights and those dang halogen headlights that make me cringe.
If you suffer from migraines or eyestrain and twilight or evening hours make you dread your drive, grab you a pair of these and see if you don't love them! Now I am never without these on as I navigate the night driving and really what price is worth (or looking like a goober) the ability to see clearer and prevent migraine hell. Priceless in my book.
I know this post is off the normal topics I usually post but one I felt I wanted to share! Have a good one ladies :) Sherry

Lip Monthly monthly bag
Left Clockwise:
City Color Magic Balm
Jessies's Girl Liquid Glass in Gypsy
City Color Be Matte in Phoebe
Pixi Lid Last Shadow Pen in Gentle Gold
City Color Lip Balm in Ultra Pink
Lip Monthly is a monthly lippie subscription that gives full size products. This is my second month and this month they gave a zip makeup nag instead of the box like last month. I was pleasantly surprised to have the makeup bag and loved that they stepped up their game! I have never known the band City Color and overall love the products.
The Magic Balm looked like a straight up balm but when worn is like a "mood lippie" and when worn was a bright pink that I fell in love with immediately! It is in my pocket at work :). The Jessie's Girl liquid glass is a bit sticky and yet a beautiful color. Because my nickname is Gypsy it was a definite keeper! The City Color matte lippie is pretty but I am not partial to matte because I have "old" lips but was surprised that this wore well. The City Color Lip Balm in Ultra Pink was very pretty and wore well and pink and lighter lippies are great for older lips and brightened my face quite well. Last but not least the Pixi stick in Gentle Gold was not too glittery and added light to my face. Overall this bag was awesome and I will use each and every lippie included.
Have you checked out the Lip Monthly offering? What are your thoughts? Do tell! Sherry
The battle of the mid-day pore refiners
Top Clockwise:
Mally Face Defender
Nars Skin Smoothing Face Prep
Benefit Dr. Feelgood
These smoothing, blurring silicone type products are the new wave of mid-day preppers. I carry Benefits Dr. Feelgood in my purse and have for some time now. I am blessed with normal to dry skin (curse you menopause!) and my t-zone tends to get shiny easily ( I think its the hot flash glow:). I found that these products after a dab to the area, seriously stop it in its tracks! I don't smear them on my face or I will move my carefully applied makeup but dabbing and patting these into place works really well to give my skin a smoothed and updated look. I have not yet found a drugstore or less expensive dupe but I am pleased with the ones I do own!
The pores around my nose and on my cheeks just look filled in and smooth after using these products and boosts my confidence when that middle of the shift slide happens. It also keeps at bay the shiny t-zone for up to 3 hours (I checked the time LOL). So if you want a smoothed and "blurred" effect, grab these and give them a go ladies. They work well and are available at Sephora and Ulta.
Have a blessed day ladies! Sherry
Dr. Brandt lineless lines no more filler and volume product
I had read about this and checked out reviews for this product. I am very into lippie helps and am not ashamed to admit that I need all the help I can get for older lips. This comes in a small tube that I am using while I get my face ready in the morning. It is a white cream like substance and I noticed that after about 10 minutes there was a difference in lines and softness which made my lippies work so much better!
It is expensive but I believe it will last for quite a while. Ulta and Sephora both carry this product. What are your favorite lip preparers? Have you tried this product? Do tell! Sherry

Another birthday and some musing!
Image from LipMonthly
Last Friday I had another birthday pushing me that much closer to 50! Yeppers my forties only have a short time to be had, not really a bad thing at all. Because ladies, let me tell you (ok for me) the 40's were absolutely awesome and way better than the 30's. I am much more comfortable in my skin, beauty has become open to broader interpretation and life is just generally less all about me!
I love having this blog to look back on some of the pretties that have come into my life, meeting other bloggers and becoming part of a very interesting and diverse group of people. I have learned a LOT and still appreciate my voice in the millions. I may be a small blog but it is an incredible journey into my expression and beauty loves.
Thank you to each and every person who follows me and my blog. Thank you for each and every comment and ideas thrown my way! I appreciate each and every one of you! So, on to another year and a new day. Here's lookin' at you 48!!! Sherry

Bare Minerals Bare Skin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation
There are 20 shades of this foundation and has an SPF 20. Available at Sephora and Ulta and of course the Bare Minerals websites as well as freestanding Bare Minerals stores.
I have heard on more than one occasion that for older woman and normal to dry skin this foundation is excellent for a dewy moisturizing coverage. As you can see by the first "face" pic that I have a lot of redness and dark circles as well as discoloration. Three drops of the foundation in the unique "well top" brush from Bare Minerals was all it took to get the coverage that I got in the second picture. This is only the foundation and not any concealers or other face products. Buffing with the brush and really working it into the skin is simple and actually quick. It is dewy, yet a matte look in a weird way. As you can see though it makes my face quite flat and I would definitely need bronzer and blush and eye makeup to take away that effect. However, I really like how this feels on my skin and it actually lasts a whole day of running errands and being outside in 100 plus degree weather.
I am not sure if this foundation would work for oily ladies but for normal, combo to dry I feel this would work well! Have any of you ladies used this new serum based mineral foundation from the popular Bare Minerals line? Do tell! Sherry
Hourglass Ambient Powder Palette
Swatch Top to bottom:
Dim Light
Incandescent Light
Radiant Light
Oh my goodness, this palette is frickin awesome! I am so glad that Hourglass made this permanent. I had Dim Light when they first came out, but am ecstatic to have multiple finishing powders. From the moment you open the box and get a good look at this product, it's just a classy experience. Hourglass knows how to make a great product by simple yet elegant packaging. It has a slim line feel as well as a huge inner mirror. The powders themselves are very finely milled and the above swatches are heavily placed in order to capture them on film.
There are so many ways to use these powders, highlighting, contouring and as a face finisher. These multitasking powders are incredible and have a place in my handbag. They can tend to look a bit crepey if applied with too heavy of a hand but you only need a little to make a beautiful statement on your face.
They are available from Sephora so grab them while you can girls! I know lots of women are ecstatic that this product is not an LE as previously we were told. Have you tried any of the Ambient Powders? What are your thoughts? Do tell! Sherry

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain
Top Clockwise stains/top to bottom swatches:
Milan Moment
Miami Fever
Shanghai Sizzle
Rio Rush
Stockholm Chic
Barcelona Nights
Ok, so everybody and their mother has talked about these stains and being the lippie addict I am, I had to purchase these! From way back when, I have never been able to keep lippies on, no matter what. The new generation of stains do stay a little longer on me and makes me happy! So when I purchased the Milani gel eyeshadows I grabbed these as well. I am really impressed. They stay on me 4 hours and for me that is a long time. The colors are vibrant, bright and that is my preference. I am so not a nude lip girl :). You can purchase these multiple places for $7.99 and I purchased mine at CVS. I do know they go fast and ladies snatch them up!
As far as the wear, let's talk about how they have a tendency to not go on smoothly, they are quite clumpy. You must smooth them out with a lip brush or your finger! They do look really pretty when they are smoothed on and they wear about 2 hours on me, leaving behind quite a pretty stain of color. The square packaging is really easy to find in a purse or pocket and overall they are not really drying to me. I am also one who places a lip treatment on when I am preparing my face so my lips will be ready for lippie wear!
The new generation of lippies that are a smooth mix between gloss, stain and lipstick are quite a treat and the colors are perfect for all year round!
The internet is inundated with reviews of these and I had to put my 2 cents worth. So ladies, tell me have you tried these? What are your thoughts? Do tell! Sherry
The trend that is Glamglow
Glamglow made a splash with its original mask that included black mud with twigs and really detoxed my face really well. However, the older I get the more I like moisturizing masks that plump and keep my skin glowy! So yep, I had to get the Glamglow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment. It definitely look a bit weird but works absolutely wonderful. Its smooth, easy to apply and doesn't smell overwhelming. A big deal for me.
It rinses well, doesn't make my face too tight and cleans it really well. Yeppers it is really expensive and it will not be a product I buy all the time. I love masks and love to pamper myself whenever I get the chance. My hubby gets a kick out of my face when I mask, until I put it on him and let's just say he changed his mind rapidly!
Have you tried the new Glamglow? What are your thoughts? Do tell! Sherry
CC love
Olay CC Tone Correcting Moisturizer with SPF 15 in Light to Medium
I make no secret that I love CC creams, especially in the summer time. It is definitely an addiction :). Olay is a brand that I have loved since my teenage years and is no different in my 40's. I saw this at WalMart and decided that I had to purchase. I am really impressed that it has a moisturizer component and although the SPF is minimal it goes with my daily SPF application. It is smooth, easy to blend and if I want to add a foundation over it, it is not too heavy. I have sun damage to the left side of my face and this covers it, as I am self conscious about the spots.
The fragrance is negligible and dissipates rapidly. It doesn't last very long on it's own but with a small amount of foundation on top lasts all day. It is dewy on it's own and actually very pretty. As a menopausal woman, dewy can turn wrong quickly, so I am able to powder my t-zone and it works for a errand running day very well. I feel it looks very healthy and is such an easy product for a quick face.
Have you used Olay CC creams? What are your thoughts? Do tell! Sherry

Bobbi Brown Beach perfume
I am a perfume junkie for real. When I whiffed Beach, well it was love! It was a pure summer scent. The main problem was if it caused a migraine and this didn't! I got the rollerball for my purse and love. It is available at Sephora. Unfortunately I am unable to explain perfume so go get a whiff girls and try it out for yourself!
Shiseido Sunscreen Products
Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protection SPF 43
A long name to be sure! Because Texas heat has been in the 100's and even small amounts of being outside can be dangerous, as well as I have sunspots to the left side of my face, I am super careful with my sunscreen. Shiseido has proven to have some really awesome product that I use daily. The tinted protection is a great base for my face and allows me to use less foundation. It is smooth, easy to blend and matches my skintone very well. I find a little concealer and a dab of foundation gives me a long lasting face for my 12 hour shifts. On it's own it works well for a sheer weekend face and a slap dash application is easy and I am out the door!
I have posted about Shiseido products before and was in Dillard's browsing and saw this and was impressed with the in store swatch. As a woman who tanned to within an inch of her life, I decided that the leathery look was seriously ugly (in my opinion ladies). I am okay today with a light tan and healthy looking skin. If you haven't checked out Shiseido products, take a gander at your local Dillards and check out their sun products. I believe you will be impressed! I really love the tinted sunscreen look as it doesn't leave a white cast to the face and works well with other products.
Thanks for stopping by the blog and be sure to leave your comments below! Sherry
Perricone No Foundation Founation Serum
I adore light base in the hot Texas summer and this is the bomb! It is expensive no doubt but well worth it, in my opinion. It covers my redness but is very sheer, so if you want more coverage this isn't it! It has some great skincare (Perricone is known for this) and for an almost 50 gal I want great skincare. It has an SPF 30 and shows suede/matte on the face. It says that it covers fine lines and softens imperfections. I definitely agree with this. My husband asked me what I was wearing because he said it looked very nice. That is the greatest advertisement of all :). It comes in a universal shade and is very thin liquid, doesn't take a lot to cover your face.
It is available at Sephora and Nordstrom. Run ladies and try this out! Tell me if you have tried this, would love to know your thoughts. Sherry
Bare Minerals 5 in 1 BB Cream Eyeshadow
Top to bottom
Blushing Pink
Divine Wine
Radiant Sand
Soft Linen
Girls these rock! I am totally impressed with Bare Minerals lately. These go on smooth, stay ALL day and can be used like a base for powder eyeshadow (kinda like paint pots). They set really fast so you need to smooth them quickly. Yes BB is overwhelming in the beauty world, but this is very worthy of the trend. These are available at Ulta and Sephora and I hope they make some more colors! PS: they are less expensive than paint pots :).
Grab 'em girls you would love them! Have you tried them? Do tell! Sherry
